Method # 1 Cleaning tiles with baking soda and warm water

baking soda tile cleaner recipe

You have to know the proper baking soda tile cleaner recipe to clean the tiles and rejuvenate their shine. You should prepare some equipment to do this DIY job efficiently, fastly, and effortlessly.

The list of equipment

  • 2 cups of baking soda
  • 2 cups of warm water
  • A teaspoon
  • A small bowl
  • 2-3 teaspoons of dishwashing detergent
  • An old toothbrush or a scrubbing brush
  • A bucket
  • A mop
  • A sponge

Step 1

First, keep 2 cups of baking soda and 2 cups of warm water in a bowl. Then stir both of the components with a teaspoon and try to make a mixture like a paste. The consistency of the mixture will not be too dry or too wet. If you need, you can add more baking soda or water, depending on the mixture’s consistency.

Step 2

After that, apply the creamy compound on the tiles with the toothbrush and scrub the floor with a soft scrubbing brush. If the tiles require, sprinkle some dishwashing detergent on the stubborn satin to make your scrubbing easier. When scrubbing, give a little pressure to clean all the stains and dirt. But, never over rub the tiles; it will damage the tiles and harm the sealant.

Step 3

In this step, damp the mop into the bucket and wet it. Rinse the floor with the mop to clean the baking soda and detergent particles. Finally, wipe the tiles with a sponge and dry them.

Our Overview

We will grade it 6 out of 10 because of the remedy’s simplicity. This solution requires one ingredient and amazingly cleans the surface. But, it does not offer you 100% brightness and cleanliness. Your shower tiles will look slightly gray. Now, let’s focus on another method.

Method # 2 Cleaning tiles with baking soda and white vinegar

baking soda solution

If you are not satisfied with only baking soda solution or your tiles require a stronger remedy, then your best mate will be baking soda and white vinegar solution. White vinegar contains acetic acid which pH level is around 2.5, and it is very effective as a homemade cleaner.

The list of equipment

  • 2 cups of baking soda
  • 2 cups of white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon liquid dishwashing soap
  • A teaspoon
  • A small bowl
  • An old toothbrush or a scrubbing brush
  • A bucket
  • A mop
  • A sponge

Step 1

Like the first method, you have to make a paste-type mixture with baking soda and vinegar. Then apply the mixture over the tiles’ surface. If there is heavy dirty grout, mold, and stubborn stain on your tiles, apply a thick layer of solution on those spaces. Then allow the paste to rest for 5-10 minutes.

Step 2

Now, start scrubbing the tiles with the scrubbing brush to remove all the dirt. If required, you can spray the liquid dishwashing soap on the tiles to reduce your elbow grease.

Step 3

Rinse the floor with the mop to remove the paste particles, and glitter the tiles. After that, pat the floor with a sponge to dry.

Our Overview

We will grade this method 7 out of 10. The combination of baking soda and white vinegar works better than method 1. But, we expect it will be more powerful and effective.

Method # 3 Cleaning tiles with vinegar and baking soda, and peroxide

vinegar and baking soda and hydrogen peroxide

After reading methods one and two, you already know the strength of baking soda and vinegar as a cleaner. You can add some hydrogen peroxide with baking soda and vinegar recipe to upgrade its cleaning power.

Hydrogen peroxide contains weak acid with a pH level of 6.2. Mainly hydrogen peroxide works as a bleaching agent or an antibacterial agent. All of these three things work extraordinarily to clean the bathroom tiles. Now, it is time to prepare the equipment.

The list of equipment

  • 2 cups of baking soda
  • 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide
  • 3 cups of white vinegar
  • A teaspoon
  • A small bowl
  • An old toothbrush or a scrubbing brush
  • A bucket
  • A mop
  • A sponge

Step 1

Keep baking soda in a bowl. Then add white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide with baking soda. After that, mix all the components with a teaspoon properly to make foamy paste-like shaving cream.

Step 2

Apply the creamy paste over the tiles and scrub gently. Initially, you will not notice the change and see the output like the first method. But, after 4-5 minutes of scrubbing, you will be surprised. The tiles start to brighten and shine.

Step 3

When you complete scrubbing all the bathroom tiles, it’s time to remove the paste particles and the loose dirt. Wipe the floor by damping the mop into bucket water. Then dry the floor for your next use.

Our Overview

It is the best method among the three. We will grade it 9 out of 10. After applying this method, your tiles will remain bright and shine for the next two to three days. You can’t imagine the effectiveness of this method.

These are the simple three methods on how to use baking soda for cleaning tiles. You can follow any one of them depending on your tiles’ condition. However, baking soda is also very effective to clean the white film off your shower tiles. So you can try this if you find any white film after cleaning the tiles.

Some Helpful Tips For You

  • There is no hard and first rule to fix the amount of ingredients to make the baking soda paste for tile cleaning. Here, you have to fix the amount depending on your bathroom size, shape, and tiles’ condition. But the thumb rule is the proportion will be equal for baking soda, white vinegar, or warm water. If you use hydrogen peroxide, that proportion will be half of baking soda.
  • Don’t apply the paste on the tiles from the door side of your bathroom. If you do it, you have to walk on the paste that can cause a slippery fall. Instead, it will be best, apply the paste from the opposite direction of the door and gradually come to the door side.
  • If you have extra baking soda paste formula after cleaning the bathroom, you can use it for further use. But in that case, keep it away from the kids’ reach because they may think it as paste and use it for brushing teeth. We hope you can predict how dangerous the situation will be.
  • Though homemade cleaners can offer you the best results, sometimes you have to use chemical cleaners. Basically, the chemical cleaners will reduce the germ and bacteria growth and enhance the brightness of the tiles.
