Putting a chainsaw chain is not that hard if you do it the correct way. Most of us doing it the wrong way. Thus, we waste our time and money. It is a must have knowledge for every chainsaw owner. Because the chain needs to replace after using a certain time.

So, now I am going to show you some simple steps to do the job done correctly. Follow these steps to save your time and money.

Steps to Replace Your Chainsaw Chain

Keep in mind that every chainsaw is a little bit different from one another. For example, I used the best chainsaw chain that is ideal for most chainsaw available in the market. Some small differences can be found but you can solve that by your general knowledge. So, no worry about the matter. Let’s follow the article;

Removing the old chain from chainsaw

To put a new one, you should remove the old one. For do that job you have to have wrench or scwrench.

So, you are ready now. The first job is to removing guide bar from the side panel. Most chainsaws have two nuts in there that attached with handle. Use your wrench or scwrench to unscrew those nuts. One thing needs to observe is that if there any brake attached or not. If attached then unlock the brake and remove the sprocket.

Your old chain is almost ready to remove. You just need to pull the nose of the chainsaw’s bar to remove the chain from the tension.

This method will remove the chain from guide bar. However, now slightly pull the chainsaw’s drive link. It will slip away.

Installing a New Chain

Once you remove the old one, it is now ready to replace the new one. For this remember the removing method. Because all the job you have done needs to do that reverse way.

For making the process easier you have to locate the tension screw. Once you find it, lose it a little. Don’t make the screw totally unscrew.

How to Thread a New Chain Onto a Chainsaw?

To put a chain, start through the clutch drum. Ensure that the sprocket and the drive link are perfectly engaged together. Then, you are set to thread the chain. At first thread, it through the clutch drum.

I have told you that you need to do the reverse procedure of removing the chain. So, now thread the other part of the chain onto the guide bar and the nose also. Pull the nose to give some tension on the chain. Now look for the adjustment pin. The pin is for tuning the chain perfectly. Use it to tighten the chain. Don’t tight the chain very tightly. A little bit lose makes the chain work perfectly. How much loose is needed? Well for that think the condition when you buy the new chainsaw. Make it like that one.

Great, you are almost done!!!  You just have two steps to finish the rest of the job.

Put the side plate to its original position and place the nuts. Tighten the nuts but keep left a little bit to lose. It will help you to tighten the chain afterward.

Now, use the tension screw to have a perfect tension and then tighten those nuts that you left a little bit to lose.

You have now finished all the job and your chainsaw is ready to do its job again like a new one.

Conclusion

Chain replacement is a regular job for a chainsaw. But using it in a correct way makes the chain last longer. And doing it perfectly, you can do any kind of chainsaw job smoothly.

But note that this a job with the sharp object. So, be careful to replace it and always keep first aid box near you while changing or replacing chainsaw chain. And use the best chainsaw chain brand to avoid unexpected.
