Top 11 Steps to Sharpen a Chainsaw Chain
Step 1: Determining the gauge size of the chain
There are two objects that use to sharpen your chain, one is rotary grindstone and another is chainsaw file. In both cases, their size must be matched with the chainsaw’s teeth. The first job is to determine your existing chainsaws teeth. So, a perfect match is needed. Otherwise, it will be a total waste. So, take the size of your chain’s teeth and have the matched file or grindstone.
Step 2: Making the chain dirt less
Before starting sharpening, the chain needs to be dirt less with the help of mineral spirits or detergents. Make sure that the cleaning material does not enter the other parts of the chainsaw other than the chain. If it happens then you have to wait until it dries to use your chainsaw.
Step 3: Determine a damaged chain
Find out the chain if there is any damage on teeth, bent or broken. If such thing happens then immediately replace it with the best chainsaw chain.
One important thing the thumb rule. You may think that what is thumb rule. The thumb rule is that the top cutting teeth must be 0.25 inch or more in length. Other than you have to replace it also.

Your chainsaw must come with a manual. Read it to find the holding angle. Generally, it is 25 to 30 degrees. Once you find the correct angle then hold it that position.
Step 8: Sliding the file to sharp
Slide the file from lower part of the tooth to upper part and release it then again do the same from the lower part.
Step 9: Sharp the other cutting tooth
Repeat the step 6, 7 and 8 for sharping every tooth after completing sharp of one tooth until you get the starting point.
Step 10: Checking the cutting teeth after sharping
