How to Clean Wood Blinds in Bathtub? 3 Simple Steps To Follow

Cleaning blinds can be a hassle. Especially if they’re made of sensitive materials like wood! It makes you so unsure of what to do, and how to do it.

This brings us to the topic we’re going to discuss today. Can you clean wooden blinds in a bathtub? If yes, how to clean wood blinds in bathtub?

In short, you can’t soak and clean wooden blinds in a bathtub. Unless! The blinds are made of faux wood. To clean them, simply run a bath of cleaning products mixed in warm water. Soak the blinds for around an hour and give them a gentle wipe. Dry them, and you’re ready to install them again!

Sounds a bit too vague? Worry not! We can get the details if you’re free right this moment! Let’s jump in-

Do You Need to Clean The Blinds in A Bathtub?

Even if you install the best blinds for the home, they need to be cleaned regularly. This is not only to maintain that quality but to look the best as well. And one of the easiest and hassle-free ways to clean them is in a bathtub.

But that method can be very harsh on some blinds. So, you should only use it only when necessary.

Only soak and clean your wooden blinds in a bathtub if they’re super greasy. This can be the case for blinds near the kitchen area. Or, do it if your blinds have some hard-to-get-rid-of accumulation of dirt over them.

If your blinds are not in a dire need of a bath, use the alternative method! Jump below the soak and clean in a bathtub method to find it. That method is good for real wood blinds as well! But if your blinds are in for bathing, let’s see how you can give it one-

How to Clean Faux Wood Blinds in a Bathtub?

How to Clean Wood Blinds in Bathtub

Get ready, we’re going to get down to business. But do keep in mind, this method won’t whiten yellowed faux wood. However, it will get rid of all the filth on it.

Step 1: Prepare The Bath

Prepare the cleaning liquid using warm water and washing liquid. The washing liquid will give it the degreasing ability. If you’re not sure about which ones to use, here are some recommendations:

Laundry Detergent Liquid Plus Aroma Boost.
Tide Liquid Laundry Detergent.

Try to get one that has a high amount of degreasing agents. You can add some antibacterial agents as well if you see molds on the slats.

Pour around 100-200 ml of the washing liquid into a ½ – ⅔ filled tub. The water should be warm, not too hot! If you’re comfortable touching the water, that’s perfect.

Step 2: Soak & Clean The Blinds

Take the blinds off the brackets before soaking them in the cleaning solution. Make sure the blinds don’t stick to each other. Otherwise, the cleaner won’t reach all parts and all slats evenly.

Let the slats sit in there for around 30 to 90 minutes. It’s for you to decide based on how much filth there is on the blinds. You’ll see the dirt mostly go away and only a soft layer remains at the end.

When you see that, take a soft cloth, such as a microfiber towel, to clean. Gently rub the blinds with the towel after soaking it in the tub water. Or you could make a small portion of that cleaning solution to soak it.

By the time you’re done, you’ll be left with a clean set of blinds. However, you’ll also have to deal with bathtub funk. You can get rid of them with ease without much difficulty.

Step 3: Dry & Install The Blinds

Now, all that’s left is to let the slats dry. You can give them a quick wipe and lay them down on a towel. Or use a dry cloth as the surface and let it sun dry to speed up the process.

While it’s drying up, you can clean the brackets using a moist cloth. The slats will take a while to dry, so don’t rush. Once the slats and brackets are not ready, install and blinds. How awesome do they look?

How to Clean Not So Dirty Wooden Or Faux Wood Blinds: Alternative

Remember the alternative method we talked about a while ago? This is it! And guess what? It works on both wood and faux wood blinders! So let’s get on with it-

Step 1: Prepare The Solution

Go for this step if your blinds are greasy. Or if the dirt is a bit hard to remove. Otherwise, move on to the next step.

Use some plain warm water to soften the dirt. For greasy blinds, add some dishwashing soap to the warm water. Don’t use hot water or too much soap. Or you’ll leave the blinds soapy.

Step 2: Clean & Wipe Dry

Open the blinds and wipe down each slat individually with a towel. For blinds with built-up dirt or grease, use the solution from Step 1.

For the real wood blinds, blot the wet towel to break down the dirt and grease. Then wipe them dry soon after. Don’t let moisture build-up anywhere.

You can take it easy for the faux wood. Wipe them with wet towels and let them dry on their own. Soon you’ll have squeaky clean blinds!

FAQs

Question: Can I use vinegar as a degreaser?

Answer: Yes! Not only do they de-grease, but they also disinfect. However, you’ll need the same amount of vinegar as water in the cleaning solution. So, it might not be a feasible option for a bathtub cleaning.

You should use vinegar to wipe clean your blinds instead. It doesn’t matter if it’s real or faux wood.

Question: Can I use cold water to clean real wood blinds?

Answer: You can, but it’s not recommended. Wooden blinds don’t bond well with moisture. They swell up and rot away easily. So, if you use warm water, the residue will evaporate. Keeping the blinds free of moisture.

Moreover, the warmth will melt the dirt and grease. Making them easier to wipe and clean. Coldwater might actually harden the grease more. So warm water is your best choice to clean wood blinds.

Question: How do I dry up the blinds quickly?

Answer: If you’re in a hurry, use a fan or hairdryer. Make sure the air is not hot, use the cool mode. Blow the air evenly on their surfaces. Your blind slats should be dry in a jiffy! Then all that’s left to do is to install them and bask in their beauty!

Conclusion

Hey there! Hope you’re clear about how to clean wood blinds in bathtub? There shouldn’t be much confusion by now. Give one or both of the methods a try. I’m sure you’ll be satisfied!

Ensure no moisture builds up and gets inside the real wood. Or it’ll swell. Also, don’t scratch the blinds, and you should be good to go!

Until you’re wandering over to us again, see you!
