How to Clean Limescale from Bathroom Tiles? [4 Effortless Techniques]

Limescale is an eyesore from an otherwise spotless bathroom. It’s critical to get rid of them as quickly as possible. The good news is that you can get rid of them with simple home remedies quite easily.

So, how to clean limescale from bathroom tiles?

You need three-part baking soda and one part water to make a paste. Apply the paste to the affected area. Then wait for 10 minutes before using a rag to scrub it off. You can also use lemon juice and white vinegar for removing the stains. If it’s too hard to get it off, you can use chemical removers.

We’ve put up a simple guideline to help you keep your bathroom tiles limescale-free. Let’s not waste any more time and get on with the cleaning.

How to Clean Limescale from Bathroom Tiles

Easy Home Remedies for Cleaning Limescale

Limescale on your bathroom floor can detract from the overall gleaming appearance. Water containing magnesium and calcium is the main culprit behind this problem. Removing these stains and getting your bathroom tiles cleaned can be a tough job.

But we come bearing good news. We have 4 different methods to get these chalky white things off your floor right away. So let’s begin-

Method 1: Using White Vinegar

White vinegar is a cheap but effective option for removing the limescale. Add an equal amount of vinegar and water to a spray bottle. Spray the vinegar on the area and leave it for 10 minutes.

After 10-15 minutes, start rubbing the area with a sponge and rinse it afterward. This may leave a bit of an unpleasant smell but is just as effective.

Method 2: Using Baking Soda

From baking a cake to cleaning tiles of the bathroom, baking soda is used for just about anything and everything.

Mix three-part baking soda and one part water to make a paste. Now apply this magic paste and wait for it to dry. Now all you have to do is scrape the surface with a small brush or a sponge.

Method 3: Using Lemon Juice

Lemon juice might be the most affordable and easy to find option. Pour some lemon juice in a spray bottle and spritz a good amount of it on the limescale affected area.

Let the Lemon work its magic for some time. Wait for 10 minutes before using a sponge to scrub it all off. If the limescale is quite thicker in some areas, leave the lemon juice for some more minutes

Method 4: Using Chemical Remover

If none of the above methods work, use a chemical remover to get the job done. Choosing the right product might be difficult as there are way too many options.

That’s why we have recommended some of the most effective products-

Product 1- Chemical Guys Heavy Duty Water Spot Remover.
Product 2- RMR Stain Remover Spray.

These products can be quite corrosive. While cleaning the grout between tiles, be careful about the amount of chemical remover you use. Spray the remover and wait for 5-10 minutes. Then scrape with a brush before washing with water.

Some Tips to Avoid Limescale on Your Bathroom

If there’s limescale on your floor, it’s more likely for limescale to attack your bathroom fittings as well. But don’t worry, you can use these following tips to get rid of limescale from the fittings-

For Taps

These are a bit tricky to clean as the vinegar or lime juice normally drips off them. Dip a cloth into lime juice or vinegar and drape it all around the tap.

Leave the cloth around the tap for an hour and from time to time squeeze the cloth. This will help the acid go all over the tap. After an hour, use a cloth to wipe off the limescale.

For Plugholes

Mix four parts of water with one part vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture in the plugholes and start scrubbing until it’s properly clean. You can remove the limescale by soaking a towel in the mixture and wiping it down.

For Showerhead

Limescale in the showerhead can decrease the water pressure. It needs to be cleaned as quickly as possible. Remove the showerhead and put it in a plastic zip-lock bag.

Pour vinegar into the bag and completely soak the showerhead. Pour some vinegar into the showerhead as well and leave it for half an hour. Scrub it with a sponge afterward and rinse.

Maintaining the Bathroom Floors

If you were planning to retile your bathroom, this may be a good opportunity. You can choose tiles that are glossy and smooth. These types of tiles are hard for limescale to attack and quite easy to clean too. However, this can be an expensive alternative.

In such cases, cleaning your bathroom tiles regularly is the best choice. The more frequently they are cleaned, the less persistent the build-up will be.

You can also install a water softener to restrict hard water flows. The magnesium and calcium minerals are effectively removed from the water by the softener. But you should choose a salt-free water softener if you want a more cost-effective option.

Limescale is the worst enemy for a clean bathroom. Clean your floor and appliances frequently to avoid such buildups.
